Oysters filter water. A lot of it – about 50 gallons of water per oyster every day. They feed on algae, plankton, larvae and they also consume nitrogen which they use to build their hard shells.

Oyster shells are made of calcium carbonate- so you can think of oysters as mini carbon capture heroes
